One more qualification

Another day, another qualification…

Just passed the CYQ level 2 qualification at the YMCA Central. I am now a fully qualified Fitness instructor. So now what? No, I won’t quit my day job just yet, but it opens up a few opportunities for my free time.

For starters, many gyms seem to offer some sort of volunteering program in which in exchange for one or two hours a week work (generally running a class, or giving a few equipment inductions), they will provide for free membership and pay for further qualifications.

And that leads to second and main reason: focus. Being a fitness enthusiast, I’d never thought that a career in Finance and a heavy social life would take a toll on my (now defunct) good habits. My gym visits became more and more sporadic, with some casual spikes of motivation followed by short-lived high intensity workout periods. Giving a few hours a week to the fitness cause should help me keep disciplined. Having clients, being forced to visit a gym regularly (even when I don’t feel like it) and keep up to date with the industry developments should go some way in immersing me in the right environment, and hopefully give me that elusive focus.
