Lately questions have been orbiting around the “what do you do now?” and “how are you contributing to mankind?” Since I left my job 3 months ago I’ve long reflected over the different directions my career, and ultimately my life, should take.
So it’s time to announce, to whoever cares, that since yesterday I am officially registered at City University for a full time MSc in e-Business Systems. Yep, starting in September, I’ll endure classes, exams, homework, student parties and poverty.
The idea is to achieve what only became possible recently in our day and age: a change of career. Whilst fund management provided me with the odd fun moment, the financial markets proved too little interest to hold my attention for much longer. But mainly, the idea that I’ll have to spend the majority of my Mondays to Fridays, 8am to 6pm, till retirement, in an office, didn’t sound too appealing. Whilst the potential of making lots of money is the upside, the downside, and it’s a major one, is that you have very limited time in which to enjoy it. I find five weeks holidays a year simply too restrictive, I’d be very happy to be paid half my salary if I could have 6 months off a year. Unfortunately, this is not an option in most of the known (by me) corporate world. I am hoping that by veering towards I.T. consulting, and possibly (fingers crossed) contracting, I may achieve for myself the lifestyle I am looking for.
Meanwhile? I’ll be enjoying two more months of partying and lazing in this wonderful city. I’ll keep you posted.
8am which day precisely was that ??
Nice to see your well and keeping clear of the bombs
Cheers
Craig
